Fibromyalgia Treatment

Treatment of Fibromyalgia can be difficult. Many doctors are not familiar with fibromyalgia treatment. It is important to find a doctor that has experience and knowledge of successful fibromyalgia treatment. Many rheumatologists, general internists, or family physicians can treat fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia treatment often requires a team approach, with your physician, a physical therapist, other health professionals, possibly alternative medicine, and most importantly, yourself, all playing an active role. There are some pain clinics that specialize in pain and rheumatology clinics that specialize in arthritis and other rheumatic diseases, including fibromyalgia. There are no approved FDA drugs specifically for fibromyalgia, however some medications made for other conditions can help.

Fibromyalgia Treatments include:

  • over the counter medications
  • prescription medications
  • massage
  • pilates and yoga
  • chiropractic
  • acupuncture
  • various herbs
  • dietary supplements
  • changes in eating habits
